Juniper Bonsai Trees
Why Juniper Bonsai Trees Are An Excellent Choice
If you have been planning to get into the art of Bonsai, but do not quite know where to begin, then you may want to consider starting out by cultivating Juniper Bonsai Trees. Not only is this species among the easiest to cultivate, but alongside Zelkova Bonsai it is also among the most versatile.
Juniper Bonsai Tree – Juniper Senior (juniper procumbens nana)

This dwarf Juniper from Japan is the most popular evergreen in the U.S. When we think of a traditional bonsai and what it should look like we think of a “Juniper Procumbens Nana”. They are very hardy, long-lived and tolerate many adverse conditions. This is an excellent tree for the beginner.

Furthermore, this species can provide more color in your miniature garden and make your home a lot more interesting. A Juniper has several varieties that increase in beauty the longer it is cultivated and cared for.
In addition to its evergreen leaves that change hues from a beautiful deep green to cool blue, this species is also characterized by amazing white flowers that often envelop the tree with a pleasant fragrance.

Advantages Of Choosing Juniper Bonsai Trees To Cultivate
Another advantage of choosing Juniper Bonsai trees is that you can easily grow them either indoors or outdoors. In most cases, however, this species prefers the outdoors. It is therefore a good idea to place it on the patio or in either full or partial sunlight. This species also has few demands as regards its care and can tolerate being grown even in ordinary garden soil.
And its versatility is evident in the way it is styled; some people train it against a fence or wall, position it beside a fireplace to provide interest in an otherwise boring area, or display it as a free-standing shrub. With proper pruning techniques, you can create interesting shapes with this species and use it effectively in landscape settings as well.
A fall repotting of a small juniper bonsai tree from an inappropriate rectangle pot into a better hexagonal pot, and a restyling of the tree from an indeterminate upright style into a better bunjin style by removing two lower branches. I had to re-edit this video. Youtube rejected the initial edit because it was over 10 minutes long.
Among the most important things to remember when growing a Juniper is to ensure good drainage and adequate space for growth. Take note that this species survives better with under-watering than over-watering, but you would do well to provide it with just enough water, of course. Remember as well that this plant has to go into a dormant state during winter, just like any other garden tree. Juniper Bonsai trees are indeed excellent, hardy trees that are ideal for those who are just beginning to learn the practice of Bonsai.
